Afghan nationals na magpuproseso ng US Special Immigrant Visas, dumating na sa Pilipinas

Kinumpirma ng Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) na dumating na sa bansa ngayong Lunes ang limitadong bilang ng Afghan nationals para kumpletuhin ang pagproseso ng kanilang U.S. Special Immigrant Visas.
Ayon kay DFA Spokesperson Ma. Teresita Daza, alinsunod ito sa kasunduan ng Pilipinas at Amerika kaugnay sa temporary hosting o pansamantalang pananatili sa bansa ng special immigrant visa applicants mula sa Afghanistan.

Aniya, “Pursuant to the Agreement between the Philippines and the United States Regarding the Temporary Hosting of the U.S. Special Immigrant Visa Applicants from Afghanistan signed on 29 July 2024, a limited number of Afghan nationals arrived in the Philippines today, (06 January) to complete the processing of their U.S. Special Immigrant Visas required for their immigration to the United States.”
Alinsunod sa kasunduan na inaprubahan noong nakaraang taon ni Pangulong Bongbong Marcos, Jr., ay mayroon lamang 59 na araw ang 300 Afghan applicants para manatili sa bansa.
Sinabi ni Daza na inisyuhan ng DFA ng kinauukulang Philippine entry visa ang mga aplikante batay sa mga umiiral na mga alituntunin.
Tiniyak ni Daza na dumaan sa mabusising security vetting ng national security agencies ng bansa at sumailalim sa medical screenibg ang mga dayuhan bago pa man dumating ng Pilipinas.
Ayon kay Daza, “The DFA issued the appropriate Philippine entry visa to these applicants in line with current rules and regulations. All applicants completed extensive security vetting by Philippines national security agencies. They also underwent full medical screening prior to their arrival in the Philippines.”
Inihayag pa ni Daza na ang gobyerno ng U.S. ang sasagot sa lahat ng pangangailangan ng aplikante gaya ng pagkain, pabahay, medical care, seguridad at transportasyon para makumpleto ang visa processing.
Ayon pa sa DFA, siniguro ng U.S. Embassy na hindi makakaapekto ang programa sa regular na pagproseso ng immigrant at nonimmigrant visas para sa mga Pilipino.
Aniya, “As part of its agreement with the Philippines, the U.S. government is supporting all necessary services for those SIV applicants temporarily in the Philippines, including food, housing, medical care, security and transportation to complete visa processing.”
Dagdag pa niya, “The U.S. Embassy has also assured that the program will not impact the normal processing of immigrant and nonimmigrant visas for Filipinos.”
Una nang sinabi ng Department of Justice (DOJ) na nagrebyu sa kasunduan na hindi itinuturing na refugees sa bansa ang nasabing Afghan nationals.
