Anim na Chinese arestado dahil sa hinihinalang pag-i-espiya at illegal surveillance sa mga barko ng militar sa Grande Island, Subic Bay
Iprinisinta ng National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) ang anim na Chinese nationals na nadakip dahil sa sinasabing illegal surveillance at pag-i-espiya sa mga barko ng militar at naval base sa Grande Island sa Subic Bay.
Ayon sa NBI, ikinasa ang operasyon at inaresto ang mga dayuhan matapos matanggap ang sulat mula sa Military Intelligence Unit ng Sandatahang Lakas ng Pilipinas ukol sa isang grupo ng dayuhan na hinihinalang sangkot sa pag-i-espiya.

Su Anlong
Nakumpirma ng NBI na isa sa mga nahuling Chinese ay mayroong warrant of arrest dahil sa paglabag sa Securities and Regulation Code.
Ayon kay NBI Cybercrime Division executive officer Van Homer Angluben, “Based po sa verification sa Bureau of Immigration, labas pasok po itong mga foreign national na ito. Meron dito lumalabas one month and then bumabalik after one month, and napaka unusual po rito yung surveillance na kinonduct ng military surveillance group, labas pasok sila sa Pilipinas at the same time dumidiretso sa Grande Island.”
Bukod sa anim na banyaga, hinuli rin ng mga awtoridad ang Pilipinong security aide ng mga ito na si Melvin Aguillon, dahil sa hindi rehistradong baril.
Nabatid na nagpapanggap ang mga Chinese bilang recreational fishers sa lugar.
Batay sa mga testigo at sa surveillance na isinagawa ng NBI at AFP, gumagamit ng high- tech drones ang mga suspek para sa kanilang illegal surveillance activities.
Narekober pa sa hot pursuit operations ng mga awtoridad ang mga cellphone na ginamit ng mga dayuhan, kung saan nakita ang mga larawan at videos ng mga barko ng militar at maging ng mga foreign naval vessel na dumaraan sa Grande Island at Subic Bay.
Ipinadadala naman ang mga larawan at video sa kanilang Chinese counterparts gamit ang social media platforms at messaging applications.
Sinabi ni Angluben, “During the operation, may mga narecover po kaming photos and videos. It’s notable during the operations, we recovered a piece of paper written in chinese and when translated nakalagay po date time and yung barko na lumabas at pumasok sa Subic Bay port.”
Aminado ang NBI na nakababahala ang pagi-espiya ng mga dayuhan sa military vessels at infrastructure sa Subic Bay.
Ayon kay NBI spokesperson Ferdinand Lavin, “This is very disturbing this is getting very alarming to all of us. Director Jaime Santiago would like to encourage all of us to continue reporting and cooperating with our authorities on matters affecting our peace and national security.”
Dahil sa strategic location ng Grande Island, ay nagagawa ng mga suspek na manmanan ang naval assets na pumapasok at lumalabas sa Subic Bay, tuwing may maritime patrols o joint naval exercises at resupply mission sa West Philippine Sea.
Sinabi ni Mike Daniel Distriro, agent on case, “Due to the significant strategic location of the Island itself, due to it’s proximity, it does not need to require highly technical tools or equipment, so mere phones lang, they could easily monitor what goes in and comes out of our naval bases specifically Subic Bay po.”
Sinabi ng NBI na posibleng imbestigahan din ang Chinese corporation na eksklusibong umuupa sa Grande Island.
Napag-alaman ng NBI na ang mga bisita sa isla ay eksklusibo sa mga banyaga na dati ay bukas sa publiko bago mapunta sa Chinese company.
Ani Angluben, “The chairman of the SBMA is coordinating with the NBI para po rito sa investigation and for the possible cancelation ng contract ng Chinese corporation over these territory, dahil itong island na ito maybe exploited as a vantage point for its operations.”
Dinala sa piskalya ang pitong suspek kung saan sinampahan sila ng patung-patong na reklamo kabilang ang paglabag sa Espionage law, Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation law, at COMELEC gun ban.
