ASEAN nagpahayag ng pagakabahala sa mga seryosong insidente sa South China Sea; Pilipinas patuloy na isusulong ang kooperasyon sa Tsina
Isa sa mga pinag-usapan sa 43rd ASEAN Summit sa Jakarta, Indonesia ay ang mga pangyayari sa South China Sea.
Sa statement na inilabas ng ASEAN Chairman, sinabi na nagpahayag ng concerns o pagkabahala ang ilang miyembro nito sa mga kaganapan sa South China Sea.
“We discussed the situation in the South China Sea, during which concerns were expressed by some ASEAN Member States on the land reclamations, activities, serious incidents in the area, including actions that put the safety of all persons at risk, damage to the marine environment, which have eroded trust and confidence, increased tensions, and may undermine peace, security, and stability in the region.” pahayag ng ASEAN Chairman
Kasama na rito ang land reclamation at iba pang aktibidad at mga seryosong insidente sa lugar.
Wala namang partikular na bansa na tinukoy ang ASEAN sa pahayag nito.
Ayon sa ASEAN, naglalagay sa panganib ng mga tao at pinsala sa marine environment ang mga aksyon.
Gayundin, nagdulot din ito ng pagbaba ng tiwala at kumpiyansa, pagtaas ng tensyon at maaaring magpahina sa kapayapaan, seguridad at katatagan sa rehiyon.
Dahil dito, nanawagan ang ASEAN ng self-restraint sa pagsasagawa ng aktibidad sa South China Sea at iwasan ang anumang aksyon na magpapalala sa sitwasyon.
Muling pinagtibay din ng ASEAN ang pangangailangan para sa mapayapang resolusyon sa territorial disputes na alinsunod sa international law at sa 1982 UNCLOS.
“We emphasized the importance of non-militarisation and self-restraint in the conduct of all activities by claimants and all other states, including those mentioned in the 2002 Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (DOC) that could further complicate the situation and escalate tensions in the South China Sea.” pahayag muli ng ASEAN Chairman
Samantala, nagkausap sa 43rd ASEAN Summit si Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. at Chinese Premier Lee Qiang matapos ang talumpati ni Marcos sa 26th ASEAN- China Summit.
Ayon sa Presidential Communications Office, ipinahayag ng Pangulo sa Chinese official na magpapatuloy ang Pilipinas sa pagsulong sa mas maraming kooperasyon, partnerships at collaboration sa Tsina
Patuloy din aniya na igigiit ng Pilipinas ang karapatan nito alinsunod sa international law.
Sa kaniyang intervention sa ASEAN- China summit, sinabi naman ni Marcos ang kahalagahan ng maritime cooperation lalo na sa Pilipinas na isang arkipelago at uusbong lang ito kung mapapanatili ang kapayapaan at stability sa rehiyon.
“The Philippines therefore continues to uphold the primacy of the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea as the framework within which all activities in the seas and oceans are conducted.
