PBBM isinulong ang duty-free privileges sa produktong Pinoy na ine-export sa US
Hiniling ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos sa grupo ng mga negosyanteng Amerikano na muling ipasailalim ang Pilipinas sa Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) program.
Ito’y upang tamasahin din ng bansa ang duty-free privileges sa maraming produkto na iniluluwas o ine-export nito sa Amerika.
Ginawa ng Pangulo ang apela sa kaniyang talumpati sa roundtable forum na inorganisa ng US-ASEAN Business Council at US Chamber of Commerce sa Blair House sa Washington D.C.
Ayon kay Pangulong Marcos, dalawang taon na mula nang maalis ang Pilipinas sa GSP program.
“We would like very much for the authorization to come about as this boost trade, and to make U.S. products that are made in the Philippines more competitive in the global market,” pahayag pa ng Chief Executive.
Binigyang-diin din ng Pangulo na ang relasyon ng Pilipinas sa Amerika ay nasa una at sentro ngayon matapos malagpasan ang mga nakaraang di pagkaka-unawaan.
“And but now, the security and defense are top of mind… we also have to see that because our economies and our societies have grown more complex, everything, impinges on everything else and… it is very hard for us to separate and say that this is a discreet sector that does not affect any other sector,” dagdag pa ng Pangulo.
Ipinagmalaki rin ng Punong Ehekutibo sa mga negosyanteng Amerikano ang paglago ng ekonomiya ng bansa, na nasa 7.6% noong nakaraang taon.
Bunga raw ito ng agresibong pagsisikap ng pamahalaan na i-promote ang Pilipinas bilang investment destination.
Kaya hinikayat ni Pangulong Marcos ang mga negosyanteng Amerikano na mamuhunan pa sa Pilipinas.
“We will continue to listen to you and to all our other partners as to what else we can do to help the — to help transform our economy and in that way to be able to play a viable part in the security and defense issues that are the challenges of the day and of the region,” paliwanag pa ni Marcos.
Malaki ang kumpiyansa ni Pangulong Marcos sa potensyal ng mga export prouducts ng bansa na lumago pa, lalo na ang mga may kinalaman sa electric vehicles at solar panels.
Kabilang din sa napag-usapan sa forum ang digital transformation at pagpapalakas sa research and development para mapabuti ang semiconductor industry ng Pilipinas.
Bukod sa mga negosyanteng Amerikano, dumalo din sa forum ang mga Filipino tycoons gaya nina Jaime Zobel de Ayala, Enrique Razon, Tessie Sy-Coson at Kevin Tan.
