Reporma sa MUP pension system, isa sa priyoridad ng bagong defense chief
Sumabak na sa kaniyang trabaho bilang kalihim ng Department of National Defense (DND) si Secretary Gilbert ‘Gibo’ Teodoro.
Sa unang araw niya sa pwesto, inilatag ng nagbabalik na kalihim ng DND ang magiging plataporma sa kagawaran.
Sinabi ni Teodoro na isa sa marching order sa kaniya ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ay ang pagpapatuloy ng reporma sa military and uniformed personnel (MUP) pension system.
Aminado ang kalihim na malaki ang magiging problema sa pondo kung hindi ito masosolusyunan.
“If it continues to be unchanged, then in five years there will be big financial drain. Now the initial job actually is to minimize as much as possible the hemorrhage immediately,” pahayag ni Teodoro.
“A self-sustaining pension scheme needs time, we need to build up the funds and we will need to raise sources in order, to find sources in order to raise capital for the fund,” dagdag pa ng defense chief.
Wala namang nakikitang problema si Teodoro kung hihingan ng kontribusyon ang mga sundalo lalo na kung maipaliliwanag ito ng maayos.
“If it is participatory, then naturally the fund becomes sustainable but that being said, there is no finalized agreement yet as far as I know, I’ll know more later on, but I think that everybody, just as long as they are contributing to the future, or their secured future.”
It’s just like us, we take on medical insurance, educational plans, etc. and they see perhaps that their money is going to something that will benefit in the future. I don’t think there will be much objections,” pahayag pa ni Teodoro.
Nangako din si Teodoro sa harap ng mga empleyado na gagawin din niyang priyoridad ang pagpapa-unlad sa kagawaran at pagtutuunan ng pansin ang kapakanan ng mga empleyado.
Pero bago sumabak sa tunay na trabaho, wala raw munang ibang gagawin si Teodoro sa unang dalawang linggo sa pwesto kundi ang makinig at matuto.
“I’m here to listen and learn, consult with the national security cluster and evolve security policies, taking into account the President’s pronouncement without sacrificing internal security to secure defense of our territory,” pagdidiin pa ni Teodoro.
Kasama rin sa nakahanay na prayoridad ni Teodoro ay ang pagpapalakas sa Office of Civil Defense (OCD) na nakatuon sa kaligtasan at seguridad ng mga mamayan mula sa anumang trahedya man made man o dulot ng kalamidad
