Hindi bababa sa siyam katao ang nasawi makaraang gumuho ang isang mine shaft sa minahan ng ginto sa Zimbabwe.
Sinabi ni Zimbabwe Miners Federation president Henrietta Rushwaya, “Four bodies have been recovered so far.”
Kinumpirma naman ng mine engineer na si Hussein Phiri, na natagpuan na ng rescuers ang katawan ng limang minero na naipit sa guho.
Aniya, “We can clearly see (five) bodies. We are convinced all of them are dead. It is however difficult to retrieve the bodies because the mine is still collapsing. Each time we try is becoming a threat to our lives as well.”

Nangyari ang aksidente sa Chegutu, nasa 120 kilometro (75 milya) kanluran ng Harare, kapitolyo ng Zimbabwe.
Sa kaniya namang pagtungo sa lugar upang tingnan ang rescue efforts, ay kinumpirmani Soda Zhemu, Minister of Mines ng bansa, na 21 minero ang nagawang makatakas.
Aniya, “Immediately after the collapse, 13 people managed to get out of the mine unharmed. During the night, eight others were rescued.”
Iniulat din ng minister at ng engineer, na tatlong iba pang minero ang pinangangambahang nawawala at hindi pa batid kung nasaan ang mga ito.

Kuwento ng 33-anyos na minerong nakatakas sa minahan na si Johannes Nyautete, “The mine started collapsing as soon as I landed on the underground tunnel which starts about 250 metres from the ground. We then saw some of our colleagues rushing out of the tunnel and we escaped together. It was a traumatising experience.”
Aniya gumuho ang minahan dahil wala iyong safety pillars.
Pahiwatig naman ng mga naunang ulat, na maaaring hanggang 18 katao ang nalibing sa ilalim ng lupa.
Subali’t sinabi ni Rushwaya, na nang mangyari ang pagguho ay 13 katao ang nakalabas ng buhay, at walong iba pa ang buhay ding nailigtas.
Ang Zimbabwe na isang bansa sa southern Africa, ay mayaman sa gold, diamonds, platinum, coal at copper reserves. Ngunit dahil sa lumulubog na ekonomiya, laganap ang iligal na pagmimina na kadalasan ay nangyayari sa mapapanganib na kondisyon.
