Sec. Martin Andanar statement:
Raising the status of Taal Volcano to Alert Level 4 means that hazardous explosive eruption is possible within hours to days. In line with this, we advise the residents of Taal Volcano Island and towns within the 14-kilometer radius of the Taal main crater, to which PHIVOLCS is recommending total evacuation, to remain vigilant and be alert about the developments of the situation around them as volcanic tremors and earthquakes were also recorded.
We also ask them to give their full cooperation to the government agencies working hard to bring them to safety and to take the necessary precautions against the health hazards posed by the ash plumes. As ashfall from the eruptions reached as far as Quezon City, we ask the public in other areas who might experience the rain of volcanic ash to safeguard themselves against its ill effects.
Be assured that the President has already given orders to make sure that those who are affected be taken out of the danger zone and that coordination with the provincial government has been made to ensure that evacuation will proceed without a hitch and the needs of the evacuees will be attended to.
The PCOO has also activated its Laging Handa operations to keep the public updated of all developments through the integrated delivery of information through all government media. At this urgent and critical situation, we call on those affected to heed the orders of their respective LGUs, and we ask others to provide a helping hand and be of service to their fellowmen who are in need. Let us work together so that problems and casualties can be prevented.
