UK retail sales bumagsak noong Agosto, matapos magbukas ang mga restaurant
Bumagsak nitong nakalipas na buwan ang British retail sales, dahil mas maraming consumers na ang kumakain sa mga restaurant at pubs, makaraang alisin na ang virus restrictions.
Sinabi ng Office for National Statistics (ONS) na ang sales by volume ay bumaba ng 0.9% noong Agosto, makaraang bumagsak ng 2.8% noong July.
Ayon kay ONS statistician Jonathan Althow . . . “Sales fell again in August, though not nearly by as much as July and, overall remained above their pre-pandemic level. Other data suggest that the drop in food stores’ sales is linked to an increase in eating out following the lifting of coronavirus restrictions.
Umakyat naman ang motor fuel sales dahil mas marami na ang lumalabas, makaraang tuluyan nang muling magbukas ang ekonomiya noong July.
Ang overall retail sales ay mas mataas ng 4.6% bago nagsimula ang pandemya.
Ang ekonomiya ng Britanya ay lumago lamang ng 0.1% nitong July, kumpara sa 1.0% noong June.
Ayon naman sa economist na si Paul Dales mula sa research consultancy na Capital Economics . . . “The decline in retail sales volumes in August suggests that the stalling in the economic recovery in July continued into August.”
