Pagpapalakas sa Phl-China defense cooperation tinalakay ng dalawang bansa
Tinalakay sa pagitan ng mga kinatawan ng China at Pilipinas ang pagpapalakas sa defense cooperation ng dalawang bansa.
Sa harap ito ng patuloy na agresibong mga hakbang ng China sa pagbabantay sa West Philippine Sea at mga muntikang engkwentro sa coast guards ng dalawang bansa.
Binisita ni Chinese Ambassador to the Philippine Huang Xilian si Defense Secretary Gilbert ‘Gibo’ Teodoro bilang bahagi ng courtesy call ng Chinese envoy sa bagong kalihim ng Department of National Defense (DND).
Sa statement, sinabi ng DND na bukod sa defense relations, tinalakay din ang implementasyon ng umiiral na bilateral mechanism, at dayalogo gaya ng Philippines-China Annual Defense and Security Talks kung saan China ang magiging host.
“Following the productive outcomes of the state visit to China of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. last January 2023, the SND and the Ambassador highlighted the enhancement of defense relations through the implementation of existing bilateral mechanisms, and dialogue platforms, such as the Philippines-China Annual Defense and Security Talks (ADST), which China is set to host.” – sinabi ng DND sa statement.
Sa nasabing pulong, binanggit rin umano ni Teodoro ang pagpapalakas sa kapasidad ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
Ayon sa kalihim ang isang malakas na AFP ay magsisilbing matibay na sandalan sa gitna ng external threats.
Sa isang pahayag, sinabi naman ni Ambassador Huang na nagkaroon sila ng constructive discussion sa pagpo-promote ng defense at military relations sa pagitan ng China at Pilipinas at mapanatili ang peace at stability sa rehiyon.
“I had the pleasure to pay a call on Secretary Gilberto C. Teodoro Jr. at the Department of National Defense. We had a constructive discussion on promoting defense and military relations between China and the Philippines, and maintaining peace and stability in the region.” Paliwanag ni Ambassador Huang
Hindi naman tiyak kung kasama sa napag-usapan ng dalawa ang insidente noong June 30 kung saan hinarang at binuntutan ng barko ng China Coast Guard ang barko ng Philippine Coast Guard na nag-escort sa bangka ng Philippine Navy na maghahatid ng supplies sa BRP Sierra Madre.
