DOT umapela sa Senado ng dagdag na budget matapos na matapyasan ng 20% para sa 2024
Umaabot sa 20% ang ibinaba sa budget ng Department of Tourism (DOT) sa ilalim ng 2024 National Expenditure Program kumpara sa pondo nito ngayong taon na posible umanong makaapekto sa tourism growth ng bansa.
Nababahala ang Department of Tourism (DOT) sa epekto sa mga programa nito para sa susunod na taon dahil sa malaking tapyas sa budget nito sa ilalim ng 2024 National Expenditure Program.
Sa pagdinig ng komite ng Senado sa proposed budget ng DOT at sa attached agencies nito, sinabi ni Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco na 2.99 billion pesos lang ang budget na inilaan sa kagawaran sa 2024.
20% aniya ito na mas mababa sa 3.73 billion pesos ngayong 2023.
“While there are certain increased for certain attached agencies overall the 20% decrease for the Department of Tourism (DOT) we foresee to effect key and flagship programs of department that will lead to contraction of tourism growth.” pahayag ni Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco
Partikular aniya sa malaki ang ibinaba ay ang 2024 allocated budget sa halos lahat ng operating units at expense accounts ng Office of the Secretary na 82% na mas mababa kumpara sa kanilang initial proposal.
Nanawagan naman ang kalihim sa mga senador na suportahan ang hirit nila na mas mataas na pondo lalo na at malaki ang kontribusyon ng turismo sa paglago ng ekonomiya ng bansa.
“The dot therefore appeals for a re-evaluation of the budget as well as the necessary resources in order to effectively fulfill its mandate especially that we all know how crucial the tourism sector is to our economy that employs millions of filipinos” dagdag pa ng Kalihim ng Turismo.
Naglabas din ng hinaing ang pamunuan ng Intramuros Administration dahil sa malaking bawas sa kanilang pondo sa 2024 na aabot sa 20 million pesos.
Isa na rito ay ang para sa security personnel ng Intramuros na pinaglaanan lang ng 1.8 million pesos na budget sa 2024.
Umapela ang Intramuros Administration na dagdagan ang nasabing budget dahil dalawang guards lang ang mapopondohan ng nasabing halaga.
“The security services would cost around 58 million pesos for one year unfortunately the only budget given to our security service is only 1.8 million pesos which can only fund 2 security guards who are located in our office at Palacio del Gobernador while the remaining 98 security forces that we need in order for the safety and security of intramuros we have to source our funds from our revolving fund.” Pahayag ni IA Administrator Joan Padilla.
