DMW at MITC, inirekomenda na ideklara ang Red Sea at Gulf of Aden na war-like zones
Ipinanukala ng Maritime Industry Tripartite Council (MITC) ng Pilipinas sa International Bargaining Forum (IBF) na ideklara ang timog na bahagi ng Red Sea at ang buong Gulf of Aden bilang “war-like zones.”
Sa pahayag ng Department of Migrant Workers ( DMW), ” The Maritime Industry Tripartite Council (MITC) of the Philippines, in a meeting presided over by the Department of Migrant Workers last March 19th, strongly recommended to the International Bargaining Forum (IBF) the classification of the southern portion of the Red Sea and the entire Gulf of Aden as “war-like zones” (WLZs).”
Ayon sa DMW, ito ay kasunod na rin ng pagkamatay ng dalawang Pilipinong tripulante ng MV True Confidence sa missile attack ng mga rebeldeng Houthi sa mga nasabing lugar.
Dagdag pa ng DMW, hindi sundalo ang Pinoy seafarers at hindi maaaring hayaan ng gobyerno na ilagay sa panganib ang buhay ng mga ito sa pagtatrabaho sa mga lugar na tila may giyera.
Maglalabas din ang kagawaran ng mga panuntunan na humihimok sa ship owners na iwasan ang paglayag sa mga nasabing lugar.
Bubuo rin ang DMW ng mga mekanismo para magamit ng mga Pinoy seafarer ang kanilang “right to refuse” sa pagsakay sa mga barko na dadaan sa mga lugar na itinuturing na war-like zones.
“The DMW and the MITC communication also reiterates the call for enhanced security measures in ships traversing the highly volatile sea route, which entails maritime security escorts and onboard security personnel.” pahayag ng DMW.
