Liderato ng Senado, tumangging paimbestigahan ang mga kuwestyonableng Bank accounts ni Pangulong Duterte
Tinanggihan ng liderato ng Senado ang hirit ni Senador Antonio
Trillanes na paimbestigahan ang mga umano’y tagong yaman ni Pangulong
Rodrigo Duterte at anak na si Davao city Mayor Sara Duterte.
Katwiran ni Senate President Aquilino Koko Pimentel, pagsasayang lang
ng oras at panahon ng Senado ang nais mangyari ni Trillanes.
Malinaw aniya kasi ang pakay nito na targeting ang pamilya ng pangulo
gaya ng ginawa nito noon kay dating Davao city Vice-Mayor Paolo Duterte na
idinawit sa korapsyon sa Bureau of Customs.
Hindi aniya ang Senado ang tamang forum para mag-imbestiga ng isyu.
Sabi ni Pimentel, kung talagang may hawak na ebidensya si Trillanes
makabubuti na magsampa na lamang ito ng kaso sa tamang forum.
Nauna nang naghain si Trillanes ng resolusyon para paimbestigahan ang
mga Bank accounts ng Pangulo na umano’y hindi idineklara sa kaniyang
Statement of assets liabilities at networth.
Sen. Koko Pimentel:
“Before, he tried it against Pulong Duterte and Mans Carpio. Now, it’s
the same thing against other members of the Duterte family. If he
really has the evidence, then he should bring an actual case in the
proper body. Senate is not the body for that. We are part of legislative action. But if this is part of just making this issue land in the news, then
this should not be allowed. It will be a tragic waste of time by the
Senate”.
Handa naman aniya ang Chairman ng Committee on Banks na si Senador
Francis Escudero na busisiin ang isyu.
Pero hindi aniya nila maaring puwersahin ang sinumang depositor na
paharapin at ilantad ang mga bank accounts sa senado dahil na rin sa
umiiral na Bank secrecy law.
Inihalimbawa ni Escudero ang kaso ni dating Comelec chairman
Andres Bautista na ipina-subpoena na ng Senador dahil sa pagtangging
humarap sa mga imbestigasyon.
Sen. Francis Escudero:
“If it is referred to me, it’s my policy to hear all resolutions and
bills referred to any of my committees However, as to how far we can
go would depend on the cooperation of the depositors concerned.
Without it, we will always be hitting a wall because of the Bank
Secrecy Law similar to what we have been encountering in the case of
Andy Bautista”.
