Assistant director ng pelikulang “Rust” dati nang inalis sa isang production dahil sa isyu ng gun safety

Dati nang pinatalsik sa isang production dahil sa gun safety violations, ang assistant director na nagbigay sa aktor na si Alec Baldwin ng loaded weapon na ikinasawi ng isang cinematographer.

Si Halyna Hutchins ay nasawi Huwebes ng nakalipas na linggo sa set ng pelikulang “Rust,” nang paputukin ni Baldwin ang baril na iniabot sa kaniya ng assistant director na si Dave Halls, na nagsabing ligtas itong gamitin.

Ayon sa producer ng Rust . . . “Dave Halls was fired from the set of ‘Freedom’s Path’ in 2019 after a crew member incurred a minor and temporary injury when a gun was unexpectedly discharge.”

Aniya . . . ” Halls was removed from set immediately after the prop gun discharged. Production did not resume filming until Dave was off-site. An incident report was taken and filed at that time.”

Natuon ngayon ang atensiyon kay Halls at sa 24-anyos na armorer na si Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, kaugnay ng nangyaring trahedya sa set ng pelikulang Rust malapit sa Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Trabaho ng armorer na mag-suplay at panatilihing ligtas ang mga armas sa set. Tiyakin na naka-lock ang mga ito kapag hindi ginagamit.

Subali’t ayon sa entertainment website na The Wrap, ginamit ng mga miyembro ng crew ang mga armas ilang oras bago napatay si Hutchins.

Banggit ang isang hindi pinangalanang indibidwal na may nalalaman sa set, sinabi ng The Wrap na . . . “A number of crew members had taken prop guns from the New Mexico set of the indie Western including the gun that killed Hutchins to go plinking, a hobby in which people shoot at beer cans with live ammunition.”

Hindi naman nagbigay ng komento ang producers ng “Rust” hinggil dito.

Ang nabanggit na developments ay kasunod ng isang narrative ng naganap na trahedya mula sa isang affidavit na isinumite ng Santa Fe sheriffs para sa search warrant.

Ipinapaliwanag sa dokumento na pinapraktis ni Baldwin na hugutin ang baril mula sa lalagyan at itutok ito sa camera, nang mangyari ang aksidente.

Ayon naman sa affidavit ng direktor na si Joel Souza . . . “The 63-year old actor was sitting in a pew in a church building setting, and he was practicing a cross draw pointing the revolver towards the camera lens.”

Nakasaad pa sa affidavit ni Souza na nangyari ang aksidente pagkatapos ng lunch break at hindi sigurado ang direktor kung ang baril ay muling tsinek for safety pagkatapos ng break.

Si Halls ang nag-abot kay Baldwin ng isa sa tatlong prop guns na isinet-up ni Gutierrez-Reed sa isang cart.

Ayon pa sa affidavit . . . “Halls yelled ‘Cold Gun,’ indicating the prop gun did not have any live rounds. Halls did not know live rounds were in the prop-gun.”

Samantala, sinabi naman ng chief electrician na ang nangyari ay resulta ng “negligence and unprofessionalism.”

Ayon kay Serge Svetnoy . . . “There is no way a 24-year old woman can be a professional with armory. Professionals are people who have spent years on sets, people who know this job from A to Z.

Sinabi naman ng veteran Hollywood armorer na si Guillaume Delouche . . . “I was very surprised that somebody of Gutierrez-Reed’s age and inexperience could be a chief armorer on a movie that has to have a lot of gunfighting scenes.”

Ayon pa kay Svetnoy . . . “To save dime sometimes, you hire people who are not fully qualified for the complicated job, and you risk the lives of the other people who are close and your lives as well.”

Ang “Rust” ay ikalawang pelikula pa lamang ni Gutierrez-Reed bilang isang chief armorer.

Hindi naman ito makontak para mahingan ng pahayag, at binura na rin niya ang kaniyang social media profiles.

Matatandaan na si Hutchins ay namatay sa ospital dahil sa tinamong sugat habang ang 48-anyos na si Souza ay ginamot ng mga doktor.

Wala ring kinasuhan at inaresto matapos ang aksidente. (AFP)
