Chinese research vessel na namataan malapit sa Catanduanes, nagpatay ng automatic identification system ayon sa AFP

Nagpapatuloy ang Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) sa pagsasagawa ng maritime patrols para matunton ang kinaroroonan at malaman ang mga aktibidad ng Chinese-flagged research vessel na Shen Kuo.
Unang namataan ang barko noong Abril 25 malapit sa Catanduanes.
Ayon kay AFP Spokesperson Colonel Francel Padilla, nagpatay na ng kanilang automatic identification system (AIS) ang nasabing Chinese vessel

Sinabi ni Padilla, “The vessel already turned off its AIS so kaya visuals na lang talaga on how we would be monitoring its movement kaya yun sa maritime patrols nagbibigay ng reports sa status ng location and activities.”
Kapag pinatay aniya ang AIS ng isang barko ay hindi na ito madi-detect.
Sabi pa ni Padilla, “For any other reasons I can’t speculate why they did it but of course turning it off meaning not being detected.”
Pero sa mga naunang monitoring ng AFP sa Shen Kuo, ay pa-zigzag aniya ang galaw nito kaya posibleng nagsasagawa ito ng research sa lugar

Dagdag pa ng opisyal, “Also we got photo footage na mayroon silang hino-hoist down na certain equipment..possibly with that equipment they are trying to see the ocean bed, yung sea floor.”
Sa ngayon ay hinihintay pa ng militar ang pinal na report sa maritime mission kung nasa Pilipinas pa o kung nakaalis na ba ang nasabing research vessel.
Bukod sa Shen Kuo, inihayag ni Padilla na may tatlo ring Chinese research vessels na mula sa Ayungin Shoal ay nagtungo naman sa Pag-Asa Island.
Hindi rin batid ng AFP kung ano ang pakay ng mga nasabing barko.
