Int’l. body handang i-settle ang claims ng Mindoro Oriental oil spill victims –DOJ
Muling nagpulong sa ika-apat na pagkakataon sa Department of Justice (DOJ) ang inter-agency task force na tumutugon sa oil spill sa Oriental Mindoro.
Inanunsiyo ni Justice Undersecretary Raul Vasquez na may mga malalaking breakthrough na sa pag-responde sa insidente.
Tinukoy niya ang commitment ng Protection & Indemnity Insurance na magsagawa ang “retrieval operations” sa industrial oil.
“They are now in the process of considering different methodologies by way of, by which… oil would be siphoned off… including the possibility of raising the vessel itself,” pahayag ni Vasquez.
“It’s up to the technical assessment whether or not that would be considered,“dagdag pa ng opisyal.
Bukod dito, sinabi ng opisyal ang bagbisita rin ng International Oil Pollution Compensation (IOPC) na nagpapakita ng commitment nito para ma-settle ang lahat ng claims ng mga naapektuhan ng pagtagas ng langis.
“The IOPC is the one who handles the funds since the Philippines is a member party in the convention that created. IOPC handles all claims in disasters of this nature,“dagdag ni Vasquez.
Kampante ang task force na kaya pang mahigop ang mga langis sa loob ng MT Princess Empress at ito ang pangunahing layunin ng inter agency.
Sa pagtaya ng otoridad may 300,000 litro pa ng langus amg naiwan sa lumubog na tanker.
