Mga datos na nakolekta sa SIM card registration, pinapo-protektahan ng Kamara laban sa mga hacker
Ipinatitiyak ni Albay Congressman Joey Salceda, chairman ng House Ways and Means Committee at vice chairman ng House Committee on Banks and Financial Intermediaries na maiingatang mabuti ang mga impormasyon na nakolekta sa SIM Card Registration Law.
Ibinato ni Salceda ang panawagan sa National Telecommunications Commission NTC) at National Privacy Commission (NPC), gayundin sa mga lokal na pamahalaan.
Sabi ni Salceda “SIM Card registries will be the largest source of personal data in the country. So, they will be targets.” “I call on the NTC and the NPC to make the necessary reviews and proactive measures to ensure that a similar data breach with the PNP database will not take place in SIM registries,” dagdag pa ng kongresista.
Inirekomenda ni Salceda na magkaroon ng periodic review sa privacy protocols ng telecommunication companies (telcos) at National Privacy Commission (NPC).
“That [periodic review] has to be sooner rather than later,” diin pa ni Salceda.
Isinulong ni Salceda ang periodic review sa privacy protocol kasunod ng report na mahigit 1.2-million personal records nan aka-imbak sa database ng Philippine National Police (PNP) ang nakompromiso na naglalaman ng fingerprint, birth certificate, education transcript, at iba pang mahahalagang
individual information.
“Handlers of personal data under SIM Card Registration, such as LGUs who do registration activities, should be more guarded about the data of their clients,” paliwanag ni Salceda.
“LGUs are holding their own SIM Card registration activities. That’s great, but we need a baseline of rules and protections,” dagdag pa ng mambabatas.
Kaya naman ngayon pa lang ay pinalalatag na ni Salceda sa NTC at NPC ang mga hakbang para hindi mangyari sa SIM card registration ang data breach na sinapit ng PNP database.
