Mga Pinoy sa Lebanon handang ilikas ng embahada ng Pilipinas sakaling sumiklab ang giyera roon

Tiniyak ng Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) at ng Embahada ng Pilipinas sa Lebanon, na nakahanda na silang ilikas ang mga Pilipino sa Lebanon sakaling lumubha pa at mauwi sa ground invasion ang bakbakan sa pagitan ng Israeli army at Hezbollah.
Sa ngayon ay nasa Alert Level 3 o voluntary repatriation pa lang ang ipinatutupad ng DFA sa Lebanon.
Ayon kay Philippine Ambassador to Lebanon Raymond Balatbat, nagsimula na silang mag-stock ng mga kinakailangang suplay gaya ng mga pagkain, gamot at gasolina at ang iba pang mga preparasyon kahit hindi pa ipinatutupad ang Alert Level 4 o mandatory evacuation.

Sinabi ni Balatbat, “We’ve already identified area coordinator for respective areas here in Lebanon. We have already identified shelters in the event of a truly catastrophic mass evacuation. We’ve already been in contact with Lebanese authorities, immigration authorities. We’ve been in discussion with them on how to facilitate the repatriation of OFWs especially those undocumented. Actually, we’re ready whenever the situation.”
Tumanggi naman si Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Eduardo De Vega na idetalye ang gagawing paglilikas pero ito ay sa pamamagitan ng barko.
Ayon kay de Vega, “Obviously plane will not work. C-130 will not work cause how many C-130s? We’re not talking about 200 or 300, obviously it going to be by ship.”

Sa tala ng embahada ay nasa 11,000 ang mga Pinoy sa Lebanon, kung saan 196 ang nasa Southern Lebanon na pinangyayarihan ngayon ng kaguluhan.
Ang ilan sa nabanggit na 196 Pinoy ay nakaalis na sa Southern Lebanon at nasa Beirut na.
Samantala, sinabi ni Ambassador Balatbat na bagama’t hinihimok nila ang mga Pinoy sa Lebanon na magparepatriate, karamihan pa rin sa mga ito ay ayaw magpauwi dahil sanay na ang mga ito sa sitwasyon doon at mawawalan sila ng trababo.
Aniya, “The mentality is they rather take their chances here than go home. The old timer, the one who’ve been through most of the wars, they said they’ve seen it all and they will survive, and of course there’s element of loyalty to their employers whom they served.”
Sa katunayan mula sa 1,000 na naghain ng aplikasyon para sa voluntary repatriation, kalahati aniya sa mga ito ay nagsabing hindi na tutuloy.
Dagdag pa niya, “I think they will only decide to leave when the situation is so bad and when the war is at their doorsteps.”
Sa Oktubre ay inaasahang uuwi ang nasa 40 Pinoy sa tatlong batch mula sa Lebanon.
Nilinaw naman ni Usec. De Vega, na bagama’t seryosong ikinukonsidera ng DFA na ipatupad ang mandatory evacuation ay hindi pa malala ang sitwasyon sa Lebanon.
Ayon kay Usec. De Vega, “Except here’s the issue. What if the conflict doesn’t escalate because this is something common in the region? So, we do not want to repatriate 10,000 Pinoys and all of a sudden in case there’s no war. Usually, level 4 declared when there’s total breakdown of peace and order.”
