Pilipinas handang tumanggap ng Ukraine refugees
Higit pa sa handa ang Pilipinas para tumanggap ng refugees mula sa Ukraine, ito ang tinuran ng Malacañang sa harap ng nagpapatuloy na labanan sa pagitan ng Russia at Ukraine.
Ayon kay acting presidential spokesman Martin Andanar . . . “Judging (by) what the President mentioned just a few days ago that the Philippines is ready to receive victims of the war in Ukraine, just as President Quezon did with the Israelis back in the day.”
Sinabi ni Andanar na ang bansa ay may mga pasilidad na magsisilbing pansamantalang refugee camps.
Aniya . . .“I think we are more than prepared, prepared more than ever. We have done this in the past, we are a country that’s battered by typhoons, more than 20 times a year. We just had the COVID-19 lockdowns, we have all the facilities that can be used as temporary refugee camps.”
Samantala, sinabi naman ni Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel Romualdez, na sinabi ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na handa ang Pilipinas na buksan ang mga pasilidad nito sa mga puwersang Amerikano kapag ang giyera sa pagitan ng Russia at Ukraine ay lumala pa at masangkot na ang US sa labanan.
Ayon kay Romualdez, ginawa ng pangulo ang pahayag sa isang pulong kamakailan sa Maynila kung saan sinabi aniya ng pangulo . . . “Give them the assurance that if ever needed, the Philippines is ready to offer whatever facilities or whatever things that the United States will need being a major – our No. 1 ally.”
Ang 1951 Mutual Defense Treaty ay nag-aatas sa US at Pilipinas na tumulong sa bawat isa sakaling magkaroon ng pag-atake.
