Senador Dela Rosa, handang sumailalim sa imbestigasyon pero hindi sa ICC
Handang sumailalim sa paglilitis si Senador Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa kahit pa mabitay pero sa mga Korte sa Pilipinas.
Ito ang tugon ng Senador matapos simulan ang pre-trial investigation ng International Criminal Court (ICC) sa Crimes against Humanity na isinampa laban kay Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte dahil sa kampanya nito laban sa iligal na droga.
Sina Dela Rosa at Pangulong Duterte ang pangunahing iniuugnay sa mga kaso ng pagpatay.
Sa Budget hearing ng Senado sa panukalang pondo ng Commission on Human Rights, iginiit ni Dela Rosa na bilang isang Filipino, may karapatan siyang malitis sa Korte sa Pilipinas.
Hindi na aniya kailangang manghimasok pa ang ICC dahil gumagana ang mga Korte sa bansa at hindi na ito dapat patunayan sa buong mundo.
Senador Dela Rosa:
“I am one of the co-accused together with the President. Being a Filipino…I rather be tried, convicted and even hanged before a Filipino court rather than [be] tried, convicted, and hanged before a foreign court”.
Pero apila ng CHR, dapat makipagtulungan ang Pilipinas sa ICC at ipakitang tumutugon ang bansa sa anumang reklamo ng mga karumal-dumal na pagpatay.
Giit ng CHR, bagamat may ginagawang paglilitis ang Korte sa Pilipinas sa mga kinasuhan ng pagpatay dahil sa War on Drugs, hanggang ngayon ay wala pa ring conviction.
Sabi ni CHR Chair Jose Luis Gascon, hindi naman aniya dapat mabahala si Dela Rosa dahil poprotektahan ng ICC ang human rights ng mga biktima kasama ang mga akusado.
CHR Chair Gascon:
“So what is critical is that we show to the entire world that the Philippine government is serious about addressing those issues that were brought to the attention of the ICC. That is why it has taken so long…it will not rely on mere allegations or statements, it will conduct a thorough independent verifiable process of uncovering evidence and truth and only if it has sufficient evidence will it proceed to charges filed and trial”.
